30.06.2006 Mobile Digital Communications Ltd. (VELCOM), a leading mobile provider
in Belarus, has awarded Siemens Communication a contract for network expansion
to add extra capacity to its GSM network. The contract covers delivery of
more than 260 GSM900 and GSM1800 base stations (about 1900 TRX) including
microwave components, a switching center for Mogilev region, as well as the
delivery of extensions of the SDH based transport network.
With the new equipment the operator will increase network capacity and
improve coverage in rural zones and along highways, and will maintain
the high standards of communication quality in large cities.
The project will enable VELCOM not only to serve a wider end user base
but also to offer more new unique services to the Belarusian market.

JV Mobile Digital Communications Ltd. (MDC), representing VELCOM brand,
is the first GSM 900/1800 operator in Belarus. VELCOM service area
covers about 70% of country’s territory. The company, which started
its commercial operations on April 16, 1999, aims to provide Belarus
subscribers with high-quality GSM services at affordable prices.
VELCOM is the largest foreign investor in the Belarus economy.
The current investment in the VELCOM network amounts to 310 million
U.S. dollars.
